Inspiration for the Weekend {6}!!!

HOORAY!
It's the weekend - again!
Oh, it's Saturday night?
Well, my husband has tomorrow through Wednesday OFF WORK! So, my long weekend starts tomorrow. I can't wait!

I have to start this weekend off with something that I made. I know, this is a post about things that others made that are inspiring me, but I made this Americana Frame for a give-away and now I am inspired to make another one for my own house, hahaha :)

I saw this Tangerine Dot Magnetic Board
pinned on Pinterest today.
I love this!
I love it exactly the way it is.
I want to recreate this and put it in my kitchen.
So, I am going to try to make this over my 4 day weekend!!

My final inspiration is...

Cowboy Caviar
from the amazing Maggie at Hell on Heels Housewife.
I have a huge church BBQ on the 4th
that I will bring this awesome dip to...

Happy 4th of July to you all!
Enjoy the weekend and the festivities.

I am blessed to meditate on John 8:36 this weekend..."Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." We are free in Christ. Amazing truth!

Americana Frame

Happy 4th of July!!!!!!!
I made this QUICK & EASY americana decoration for a Christian women's event last night. One blessed lady had a sticker under her chair and won this festive frame (well, all I had was a band-aid, not a sticker, and it was pretty funny to tell the ladies to look for a band-aid under their chair - got a bunch of laughs).

Here is where I set it out as a decoration for the dinner...

And here is the close up...

What you'll need...
scissors
cotton twine
hot glue gun
3 buttons
red striped fabric
old pair of jeans
rustic frame

It was super simple to assemble.
If you have any questions, please leave me a comment.
Happy 4th!

dental hygiene lesson

Hello Friends!

Last Friday I featured a dental lesson on my Inspiration for the Weekend {5} in hopes that I would do it with my boys over the weekend. Well, the weekend came and flashed by and I was unable to get to the lesson. So, I put together the lesson for them last night while they were sleeping and we had fun this morning learning about our teeth and how to care for them.

I want to thank my friend Stacy for pinning it and I DEFINITELY want to thank the awesome blog {Sense of Wonder} for the inspiration!!!

Onto our dental hygiene lesson...

We started by looking at our clean teeth.
I took pictures of their teeth and also had them look in the mirror.
I talked about how our teeth get dirty and yucky when we eat food.
I gave each of them 2 chocolate chips and asked them to chew them up -
of course they excitedly agreed :)

Then I took pictures of what their teeth looked like after they had eaten the chocolates...

They were so surprised to see that their teeth were that dirty!!
I poured some chocolate syrup on the bottom of a bottle that I had cut (to resemble one of their molars) and showed them that even when I rinsed it off with water, the chocolate stayed on the tooth. I did this visual for them to see that the "molars" in their mouth will have chocolate in them even after swishing with water...

So I asked them to drink some water, swish it around in their mouth and then I took pictures of their teeth. I showed them that their teeth still had chocolate in it, even after swishing with water...

So, I talked to them about cleaning their teeth after each meal and how using a toothbrush and toothpaste helps brush away all the yucky food and helps get the food get out of the crevices. We then brushed the prop molar with toothpaste and a toothbrush...

Owen does not like brushing his molars. I taught him about brushing the entire surface of the tooth - even the backs of our teeth. Sometimes when we eat really sugary food we need to brush, rinse, then brush some more. He could see where he brushed (and where he missed) through this hands on activity...

Then we talked about the food between our teeth. I made a model of their teeth using egg cartons that I cut up and glued onto a piece of construction paper and the food stuck between the teeth is just tissue paper that I ripped up. We talked about our favorite foods and when we eat them they can get stuck in our teeth, like this...

I taught them about dental floss and showed them how it is used to get the yucky food out from between our teeth. They loved this part of the lesson...

We ended the lesson by brushing our teeth (of course!!) and flossing...

We had such a great lesson and we had fun too!
Lessons born from fun stick in my kids minds and I am so thankful for all the creative Mom's and teachers out in blogland that are willing to share their ideas.

Thank you again Sense of Wonder for the awesome inspiration!!!

eyes

Owen and I have been talking about eyes this week.

I love to try to catch my first thoughts on a subject - and usually I just laugh at myself - so here were my thoughts when we first started talking about our eyes...

Matt 6:22a "The eye is the lamp of the body."

The line from the Little Red Riding Hood,
"Goodness, what big eyes you have.", said the little girl."The better to see you with.", said the wolf.

And last, but not least, I imagined what it would be like if people had googly eyes.

So, Owen and I talked about the first two & then did a craft with googly eyes and magazine cut-outs. It was really fun!

I think my favorite one has to be Taylor Swift. She looks frightened with those googly eyes!!! hehehe!
Owen's favorite was the cow.
We had a great time laughing while talking about our eyes :)

newspaper roses frame

Remember the newspaper roses that I was making?
Well, I was going to make them to frame 3 mirrors in my bedroom.
But, when I started placing the roses on the mirrors the other night I QUICKLY realized that the project just wasn't going to look like I had envisioned.
There is so much character to the roses that putting 3 mirrors next to one another, framed in newspaper roses was just going to be too busy and too much! So, I will figure out what to do with the 3 mirrors another day!

Today I made a newspaper roses frame for my sweetie-girls room.
I LOVE HOW IT TURNED OUT!
(yes, I yelled that! that is how in love with this piece I am!!)

How did I make this?

I started by making a bunch of newspaper roses - in varying sizes - by following this tutorial from Michele Made Me's awesome blog!!

Then I took apart this picture and threw everything but the frame away...

The bare frame...

I hot glued the roses randomly to the frame,
just like Michele did to her frame...

And it came out like this!!!...

I love this beautiful newspaper roses frame!
Thank you Michele for the awesome inspiration!!!!!!!!!
My daughter's wall never looked lovelier!!!
