a new babydoll

I have to be honest and open with you all about the Mom I have been to my daughter. I totally failed! It never occurred to me that my daughter might want a babydoll. No one ever gave her one as a gift and I have 2 sons before her that never got one. So, we have been going on happily through life - that is until a playdate I hosted at my house last week. Ava saw one of her friends' babydolls and begged for it. She hugged it. She talked to it. She did not let that babydoll out of her sight. It was very clear that I failed. I needed to buy her a babydoll! My husband went out of town and I was so busy with the kids that I couldn't get to the store. My sweet boys reminded me all day long, every day, that Ava needed a babydoll. Ava even stole her brothers monkey and wanted to sleep with it, haha. I finally loaded the kids in the car, drove to Target and let Ava pick out her new baby. But, as I stood in the babydoll isle at Target I was a bit overwhelmed. I called my friend Jennifer (the Mom of Ava's friend with the babydoll) and asked her how I was supposed to pick a baby for Ava. Her suggestions were amazing! For her daughter's first babydoll she made sure it had a soft tummy, washable, and plastic head. I found 2 babydolls that fit this description and let Ava pick the one she wanted. She hugged her baby all the way to the checkout line. Cried when I handed it to the cashier and giggled when we handed it back to her. She is in love with her babydoll. I admit it - I am learning this whole Motherhood thing, one babydoll at a time! :)

  1. You so did not fail girl!! You are the best Mom ever! It's like you said, you are just learning one doll at a time. Your friend gave awesome advice! Those baby isles are overwhelming. I learned the hard way about the complete plastic ones after legs were torn off every 5 minutes. My daughter is obsessed with removing clothing so our baby dolls can usually be found in the nude. :-) I can tell you the next item that might be of interest is a small purse. I found one at a thrift store and Lila carries it around with her baby doll all the time.

  5. Those pictures are so sweet! My little girl loves her babies and I love watching her play with her baby because I know that she learned how to do that because that's what I do with her. So every sweet and adorable thing your daughter does to take care of her baby, she learned how to do from you.

  6. I think your daughter looks adorable with her new baby! And, girl, who can blame you for not thinking about getting her a doll after having two boys before her?!
